Violent attacks – including seven reported stabbings on primary school staff – have seen thousands of pupils excluded for as long as eight weeks.

Teaching unions last night branded the epidemic of classroom altercations as “outrageous” and “totally unacceptable”, with calls for a clampdown on the problem.
