This is an example of the luxurious hotel suite where Alex Salmond stayed during his trip to the Ryder Cup in Chicago, the cost of which he has tried to keep secret from taxpayers.

The First Minister has dismissed as “ridiculous frippery” demands he account for the cost of his September 2012 stay at the five-star Peninsula Hotel, even arguing that disclosing the information would jeopardise his safety.

But The Telegraph can disclose today that he spent £3,000 for four nights with his wife in a “grand deluxe suite” at the hotel, which included a marble bathroom with spectacular views across the city.
