Hillsborough probe police chief received perks, FOI reveals

The former South Yorkshire Police chief under investigation over the Hillsborough disaster received a £70,000 package of perks on top of his £169,359 salary when he was at the helm of neighbouring West Yorkshire Police.

Sir Norman Bettison, who resigned last year amid misconduct allegations over Hillsborough, was awarded the package in 2009 by West Yorkshire Police Authority, according to papers released under the Freedom of Information Act.

He was provided with a £36,594 car allowance every year, and £9,148 for his health and wellbeing, which included gym membership.
