Labour distances itself from Jack Straw’s inclusion on the FOI Commission

Labour MP Wayne David has distanced his party from former Labour MP Jack Straw being on the Government’s FOI Commission.

David told the House of Commons, in a point of order, that the Labour Party had no representation on the Commission.

He also said the party opposed any watering down of the Freedom of Information Act.

“The Government has published a written statement announcing a commission to look into the Freedom of Information Act,” he told the Commons.

“The impression has been given that this is a cross-party commission with the support of all parties.

“Can I make it clear that we on this side of the House [Labour] have not been consulted about the work of a Commission, nor do we have representation on the Commission, nor do we want to see any watering down of the Freedom of Information Act.”
