Patients taken to A&E by taxi after 999 calls, FOI reveals

The Evening Standard report:

Thousands of Londoners are being rushed by taxis to accident and emergency units to save money, it was revealed today.

New figures reveal London Ambulance Service called a cab instead of sending a trained crew almost 5,720 times in the an 18 month period.

All of the call-outs were for people who called for emergency treatment but who were “assessed over the phone” as not having a life-threatening condition.
