Reading’s cracked pavements are a danger to people with sight loss, according to a report by The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

A Freedom of Information request showed that during 2012/13, the council received 37 complaints from people regarding cracked pavements and the difficulties they cause when getting out and about – Broad Street was identified as the worst.

Cracked pavements were among the top five difficulties highlighted in the charity’s Street’s Ahead Survey, completed by 761 blind or partially sighted people across the UK. Of respondents, 65 per cent had been injured by street clutter, including A-boards, wheelie bins and badly parked cars.
