A Sunday Express investigation found terrified teachers are regularly calling 999 for protection against knife-wielding yobs, abusive youngsters and thieves.
Teaching unions and opposition politicians yesterday branded the figures “disturbing”, and insisted more must be done to make schools safe.
Under Freedom of Information legislation, we asked Scotland’s 32 councils how often police had been called to their schools in the past two years. West Lothian had the highest figures of those that responded, with officers called on 38 occasions.
