Credit Today report:

Less than 5% of the value of debt passed to private collection agencies by the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) has been recovered since 2008, new figures reveal.

DWP currently employs six collection agencies to assist the recovery of debts owed to it and has passed 989,396 cases to them since April 2008.

The value of those cases stands at £730,025,114, of which £36,152,188 was recovered between April 2008 and July 2013.
