The Liverpool Daily Post report:
Merseytravel chiefs spent more than £13m of taxpayers’ money on consultants in three years for tasks as menial as reviewing minutes of meetings.
At the peak of spending, the transport authority spent £6m in one year alone, paying up to £285 an hour to solicitors and management consultants.
While controversy around the use of external consultants has dogged Merseytravel since the leaking of a dossier that forced former chairman Mark Dowd’s resignation, the actual figure on how much was being spent was not made public.
